I’ve wanted to make an apron out of the Echino Birdsong fabric since I first saw it last year. Once it arrived however I had a bit of stage fright. What if I messed it up? How could I ever forgive myself for wasting such precious cloth? And anyway – which pattern would I use? After volunteering to get a craft stall up and running at the kids’ school I pulled out some fabric from my stash, drafted a pattern, and sewed up a couple of aprons. After two successes I decided it was time to start on the real thing:

Let me tell you I was on such a high after sewing this apron. It only took an hour, I didn’t have to unpick a single seam, and it came out looking exactly as I’d hoped it would. Sewing can be so crushing when it goes wrong – but when it works it feels so great!!
If you’d like to sew yourself something out of a metre of this beautiful fabric (or if you’d just like to hoard it in your stash) then leave a comment and I’ll randomly pick a winner this coming Friday after 8pm Melbourne time. The winner chooses which colour. Don’t forget that to leave a comment you need to click on the title of this blog post (Echino Giveaway), fill in the form, and then wait patiently whilst I come along and approve it.
Good luck!!
a very impressive apron in an hour- I like the button and and quite prepared to wait patiently for you to approve my comment if it means a chance of winning That gorgeous fabric. Thanks!
The Echino fabric is precious. As is your apron :)
Pretty!
gorgeous fabric, I love the apron.
Gorgeous fabric. Have used Echino fabric before and love it!
Oh my, the fabric and apron is gorgeous.
That fabric is lovely. I like most Echino fabric and the one you have used doesn’t disappoint.
That is both stunning and elegant! Well done on a great outcome. Wow, the chance to win such gorgeous fabric – thank you! And Echino to boot :-)
That apron is just beautiful! You are very talented to make that in an hour and not have to unpick a single seam! The fabric is divine…. I wonder what I could make if I was lucky enough to win some of it???
Your apron is gorgeous! I’d love to add some of this fabric to my stash. :)
That is one gorgeous apron – Love the colour and the design. Hope you get to show it off in style. thanks for sharing
The apron is gorgeous. I love the story of the trial runs. Having just started back sewing after many years of the sewing machine collecting dust in the back of the cupboard I was inspired by the beautiful fabrics on your website. I made the versatile skirt out of calico in a small first, then a medium and then added darts to get it right for me before making it in the beautiful spotted fabric from earthgirl fabrics. I loved the one you made in denim.
Both absolutely delicious, I’d be too scared to wear that apron for fear of getting it dirty!
I have a weakness for fabrics with bird prints and I think this Echino print is gorgeous!
Well done on the 1hr apron, looks like I might get to see it IRL.
I am in love with aprons! Got my parcel yesterday thanks!
Such a fanastic result! I love the cut and the fabric is a perfect choice. I’m inspired to recycle my old apron and make a new one!
Echino has some of the most delish fabric, whenever I look I think…Oooo I’d like that one, and that one …and….that one.
I thought I’d seen the best of Echino fabrics when I stumbled across the range from a few years ago with large pink dots and jaguars (made a pinny for my daughter with it) – then these new fabrics came out. This time I’ll sew it for me. Your apron shows it off perfectly.
i love your apron, would even look pretty as a dress.. i love the skirts too i can see me running and looking for nearest patterns if i won this beautiful material
Wow, nice apron! I would love to win some Echino fabric, it looks devine :)
It is truly georgeous fabric. It is always great to try something new and be successful. Love your fabric range.
gosh, what beautiful fabric!!! :) makes a lovely apron too. :D
I liked the pink version of the fabric much better than the purple in the newsletter-but the apron looks awesome so I guess its more a matter of what you do with it then what the swatch looks like..
I have a georgeous apron pattern I have been putting off making while looking for the perfect fabric! Yours is just beautiful! I love this range of fabric, it’s so pretty.
Just gorgeous! Such a beautiful fabric. LOL I wouldn’t want to get it dirty though in the kitchen!
